HE. Reem Abu Hassan

Ministry of Social Development

H.E. Reem Abu Hassan is Minister of Social Development in Jordan since April 2013. Prior to this, she served as the Secretary General of the National Council for Family Affairs. An Attorney engaged in the practice of law and advocacy in the areas of human rights and judicial reform, she is a member of the Board of Trustees for the National Centre for Human Rights. As an Advisor to the Minister of Justice, she established the Family Affairs Directorate at the Ministry. Since 1992, she has been involved in drafting legislation related to women and children. She participated in setting up several organisations including the Arab Women’s Legal Network, MENA Friends of the Global Fund, The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. H.E. Abu Hassan was an Editorial Member of the team that published three volumes on Good Governors within the Judiciary, Parliament and Media in 2006 with the UNDP and the Arab Centre for the Rule of Law. She also authored the Jordan country report on “Women’s Rights in the Middle East and North Africa, Citizenship and Justice.” H.E. Abu Hassan received an LLB from the University of Jordan and an LLM from the University of London, LSE. She is a Visiting Researcher at Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
